In case you missed it, in lieu of making a list of resolutions/goals for the new year, I have chosen to focus on one word for 2014 to guide my thoughts, decisions and actions to mold me into a better version of me. Read about my choice here. This is an update on how I’m doing in the area of being connected.
Connected is defined as being joined or linked together. I am striving to be connected to my Maker, husband, family and friends in a new way this year. This means that there may be some stripping that needs to take place in my life. Stripping of relationships, activities and time that may be cluttering up life and the way that I truly connect with what and who is most important to me.
One *connected* verse
Because being connected to the source of my faith is vitally important to me and the one thing that carried me through my recent season of loss, I am meditating on this verse to further root my desired connection with God.
I keep my eyes always on The Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure.
– Psalm 16:8-9
One *connected* Song
One little known fact about me is that I am musically minded. Having said that, I have also chosen a song as my anthem this year to accompany my word and verse. I have chosen a song that has become quite popular in Christian circles. Oceans by Hillsong United.
The lyrics that speak most poignantly to my heart to be connected are found in the chorus:
I will call upon Your name,
And keep my eyes above the waves,
When oceans rise, my soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours, and You are mine
Joined. Linked together. Connected.
These additions were not intended to complicate the simplicity of my focus, rather, they are the fruit of my focus and will continue to be my lighthouse as I navigate through the year. If this has spoken to you in a special way, feel free to choose your own word. It’s never too late to be intentional with your thoughts, decisions and actions. It’s what a clutter free life is all about.
If you chose a word for the year, have you thought about cementing your commitment with a verse or song? I’d love to know the fruits of your focus in the comments.
